Financial Support

Within the financial resources available, a limited number of selected participants, early career professionals from developing countries will be offered financial support to attend the 5th GEO Blue Planet symposium.

This financial support, provided by sponsors and partners, will defray the cost of travel (a round trip air-ticket between the airport of international departure in their home country and Accra, GHANA) and/or the room and board expenses for the duration of the symposium.

Eligibility to apply for grant 

To be eligible for a financial support to facilitate participation in the 5th GEO Blue Planet Symposium in Accra, GHANA:  

  • Applicants should be no more than 10 years from PhD not counting time for family leaves, and should be affiliated with an ocean and coastal academic organization, institution, government agency, or nonprofit organization or from a low or low-middle income economy as classified by the World Bank (World Bank Country and Lending Groups – World Bank Data Help Desk) 
  • Applicants must demonstrate that their activities or project work is directly relevant to one or more of the symposium session themes, 
  • Applicants who have submitted an abstract to the 5th GEO Blue Planet Symposium and have been accepted (either as oral or poster presentation) are strongly encouraged to apply. 
  • Applicants willing to attend the symposium in person. 

How to apply? 

To apply for this grant, you must provide the following information and documents: 

  • Personal and Contact Information (through this form) 
  • Resume/CV (pdf) 
  • Copy of a valid passport 
  • Provide proof of enrollment/enrollment verification
  • Cover letter detailing your motivation to attend the 5th GEO Blue Planet Symposium, what you hope to learn and why you consider yourself a good candidate for sponsorship.
  • If you submitted an abstract or a poster to 5th GEO Blue Planet Symposium, please provide the title. 

All application materials (applicant’s info, CV, and letters) should be submitted electronically via email to the following address symposium@geoblueplanet.org. All materials should be compiled into a single PDF for uploading. 

The application is only valid if the participant attaches all the above required documents.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.  

N.B: This application does not replace the regular registration for the event that has to be done through the registration page.

Review Process 

Participants will be selected on a competitive basis, depending on their place of origin, and relevant professional or educational background related to ocean and coastal environment. Successful selected in-person attendees will be notified of the outcome shortly after the deadline to apply for financial support: August 29th, 2022.

In all case participant who are selected will be responsible to make their own arrangements for passports, visas, travel insurance and medical insurance.
